Aaktanit, Waiting for the Light
Aaktanit is not simply a small village in the South of Lebanon. It is a part of who I am ,a place where memories were built, challenges were faced, and dreams were born.
Sometimes, my greatest pain is that I cannot always be present in Aaktanit to see its daily life, to contribute as much as I would like, or to reflect there the journey and success that I have worked hard to achieve. Yet distance does not mean absence, and absence does not mean that we have forgotten our land. We are people who grew up facing challenges. We learned to build, to persevere, and to move forward despite circumstances that were often beyond our control. The South has endured uncertainty for far too long, and stability remains something we continue to hope for. But difficult times do not erase our connection to our roots.
There is also something important that should not be misunderstood.
Some may look at our absence, our silence, or the fact that we are not constantly present on our land and assume that we no longer care. Others may see the current circumstances as an opportunity to approach us with offers to purchase our land, believing that we have turned our backs on it.
They may be mistaken.
We are watching. We are aware. And we remember.
Land is not merely property. It carries our family history, our identity, our memories, and our sense of belonging. What may appear today to be neglect may simply be patience. We know that circumstances change, and we are waiting for the moment when the South can once again breathe, rebuild, and prosper.
Aaktanit, time is moving fast.
We may not always be there physically, but our eyes remain on you, our hearts remain connected to you, and our hopes remain alive.
I believe that the day will come when the South will regain its strength and its place at the heart of Lebanon’s future. And when that moment comes, we will be ready, people will coming back to their roots with greater vision, greater determination, and renewed hope.
Aaktanit is waiting.
We are waiting.
And we believe that, one day soon, the light will shine again not only on Aaktanit, but across the South and throughout Lebanon.
